MCP Rehearses Upcoming Pride and Prejudice
Patrick Lighthall

The Marshall Civic Players continue rehearsals for their upcoming performances of Jane Austen's classic, Pride and Prejudice. Based on the novel, audiences watch the humorous and enchanting duel between Elizabeth and her pride and Darcy with his prejudice.

"It's not just this romantic story," explains Marshall Civic Players veteran Kyra Hill, portraying the strong-willed Elizabeth. "It's a story about challenging society, loving your family, and, at least for Elizabeth, finding love from other people when you don't consider yourself very loveable." While Elizabeth displays a balance between rejecting societal norms and loving a family that very much believes in them, other characters suffer through different internal struggles.

Christopher Rutenber, a new addition to the Marshall Civic Players, portrays Mr. Darcy. "He wants to be seen as proper and if people don't like him that's fine, he cares more about his ideals," says Rutenber. "And in his own way he attempts to redeem himself at the end and do the heroic thing."

As the story unfolds, the complexities of each character are revealed and challenged, giving audiences an experience they will cherish. "To see a book come to life on stage is a special moment," explains Matt Ross, playing Mr. Collins. "It should happen more often."

Audiences can enjoy Pride and Prejudice at the Franke Center for the Arts in downtown Marshall May 5-7 and 12-14, with Friday and Saturday shows starting at 8:00pm and Sunday shows starting at 2:30pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $8 for students. Call (269) 781-3335 for more information.

Audition Dates Announced for Pride and Prejudice
Patrick Lighthall

The Marshall Civic Players are pleased to announce audition dates for their upcoming performances of the literary classic Pride and Prejudice. Adapted from the Jane Austen classic tale, the story chronicles the witty duel between the prideful Elizabeth and the prejudiced Darcy. As the two continue their quarrels when meeting one another, they slowly realize what might happen if they choose to meet each other in the middle.

Directed by Marshall Civic Players veteran Tucker Hale, Pride and Prejudice will come to life and re-imagine a thrilling classic tale.

Auditions will be held March 20 and 21 at 7pm in the 3rd floor rehearsal hall at the Franke Center for the Arts in downtown Marshall. Those interested should be ready to portray dynamic characters who can project their voices and take direction well. There will be no dancing in the show, so those auditioning should be prepared to read passages from the script with others. Also, please bring any dates you might have conflicts to assist in scheduling/casting the show.

Performances for Austin's heartwarming Pride and Prejudice will be May 5-7 and 12-14 at the Franke Center for the Arts in downtown Marshall. Friday and Saturday performances will start at 8:00pm and Sunday performances will start at 2:30pm.
