The Coast of Cornwall

The cast has been announced for the March production of Marshall Civic Players "Pirates of Penzance".

Theater enthusiasts will see many of their favorite local actors in this production as well as a host of new faces and talent. "Pirates" was last performed by the Marshall Civic Players in the 1997-1998 season.

The show was written in the 1800s by Gilbert and Sullivan and has been touted as one of the best and well known comic operas. It is a story of romance, comedic confusion, pirates, policeman, and a twisting and turning story line.

The story consists of 10 main characters. The Major General, whose daughters are captured by a band of bumbling pirates, is played by Alan Elliott.

The Pirate King leader of this band of pirates is portrayed by Dr. Mark Richardson. Jonathan Scovie plays Frederick, the young apprentice to the pirates who vows to exterminate them when his apprenticeship is through.

Frederick falls in love with one of the Major General's daughters Mabel, played by Brittany (Byrens) Lighthall.

The Sergeant of Police, who with his band of 'Keystone' Cops sets out to capture the pirates is played by Patrick Lighthall.

Christine Gorsline plays Ruth, Frederick's aging nursemaid.

Sisters Edith and Kate, are played by Marshall High School students Kyra Hill and McKenzie Shafer. They are joined by fellow student Matt Hazel playing the role of Samuel.

The chorus is peopled by many familiar performers as well as a few new ones. It includes Jeremy Adams, Steve Powers, Melanie Kellogg, Doug Mills and Carlen Kernish, Dr. Jim Gray, Andy Karr, Tim Nolan, Emily Heney, Heavan Setler, Jennifer Travis, Lauren Arizmendi-Vroman, Dave Byrens, Howard Lampert and Louise Treat.

The production crew consists of Artistic Director Charles Burr, Music Director Shae Redfield, Producer, Kim Byrens, Technical and Set Director, Dennis Gorsline, Costumer, Judy Edsall, assisted by Lynn Wirtz and Props, Christine Gorsline.
