The Marshall Civic Players Seeking Donations For Summer Youth Program
You can help

The Marshall Civic Players announces that it will now oversee the Junior Youth program and is seeking donations to help fund the project. This program was added after this years budget was set and funding will have to be subsidized through outside sources. Unfortunately, the drop in membership has also created a need for additional fund raising for our regular summer youth program. Donations can be made to MCP at P.O. Box 823, Marshall, MI 49068.

New Equipment for Marshall Civic Players
Rick Boyer -Armadillo Productions

With proceeds from a successful run of ?scananba in da Moonlight?last November, Armadillo Productions has purchased some new equipment for the Marshall Civic Players.

This includes a portable sound system featuring a 125W per channel amplifier with built in mixer that can accommodate multiple microphones and other audio inputs. The sound system also includes a cordless microphone and two regular microphones.

In addition to the sound system, 14 Ellipsoidal lighting instruments were purchased. These lights substantially upgrade existing ellipsoidal lights by improving efficiency and lowering the cost of operation and repair.

Cinderella takes the Stage
MCP 2005 Winter Musical - Sue Hutchings, President

We have a real treat in store with the upcoming production of Cinderella. It is going to be a fun, light and whimsical romp that will entertain and delight all ages. In this time of economic hardship, downsizing, strife and division in the government, it is nice to (just once in a while), sit down and think about nothing but fun.

The board and the cast have been busy promoting the show in the elementary schools. They went into the classrooms and read to Walters, Hughes and Gordon elementary, as well as the Montessori school. Each school was gifted a full size Cinderella story book and each classroom received a smaller version. We looked at it as a great opportunity to tie the magic of reading to the magic of live theatre. What child (or adult) doesn't want their fantasies to become realities.

Marshall Civic Players now supported through the Marshall Community Foundation
Take advantage of tax breaks now

In October of 2002, the Marshall Civic Players were endowed with a $5,000.00 gift from the Charles E. Stauffer Estate. The funds are managed by the Marshall Community Foundation. In 2002-2003, five percent of the total earnings, or $208.00 were distributed to the organization's operating fund. The current fund balance stands at around $6,625.00 after a $400.00 donation was added at the end of 2004. Pending audit, the Community Foundation expects to release around $279.00 for the 2003-2004 investment period.

Patrons, members and interested citizens are all welcome to donate to the fund at any time. The wonderful thing about donating to an endowed fund is the tax benefits. Any donation to an endowed fund held by the Marshall Community Foundation qualifies as both a Michigan State Income Tax credit and also a Federal Tax Credit. For example, that $400.00 donation mentioned earlier would result in a total tax credit of up to $344.00, meaning the actual cost of the gift was just $56. That's because a married couple (itemizers) filing jointly would receive a state tax credit of 50 percent, or $200.00 The federal tax credit would be up to 36 percent, or $144.00, a total savings of $344.00.

A single person (non itemizer) is eligible for a 50 percent state credit on a donation of $200, but would not receive the federal benefit if they did not itemize. In other words, a $200.00 gift would cost just $100.00.

Donations to the fund can be made directly to the Marshall Community Foundation in the name of The Marshall Civic Players and this is a gift that will continue to provide for the players in the years to come.

The Marshall Community Foundation promotes and enables community wide philanthropic giving to enrich and improve the lives of residents in Marshall and the surrounding area. For more information contact the Marshall Community Foundation at 126 West Michigan Avenue, Ste. 202, Marshall, MI 49068 or call: 269-781-2273. Information is also available on the MCF website.

Memorial Contribution
In memory of Marjorie Masten

The MCP board was very moved by an unexpected monetary donation in memory of Barb Crowle? mother, Marjorie Masten. ?y mother spent many wonderful evenings sitting in the auditorium watching shows,?recalled Barb. Friends of the family thoughfully gave to the organization that Barb has served for many years, first as the mom of two of Marshall? favorite young actors, then as a sharp producer of several youth shows and regular season fare such as The Unexpected Guest.
Barb punctuated her dedication by serving three years on the board. She was tireless in the task of recruiting both paid staff and volunteers. Barb continues to work with the players and is always willing to wield a paintbrush, hunt down an obscure prop, or by greeting patrons with her warm smile.

Contributing a total of $200 to MCP include: Dr. Tom and Darlene Neidlinger, Russ and Mary Jo Byrne, Les and Ann Chapman, Bill and Susie Traver, Jim and Sue Houston, Jim and Jeannette Dyer, Joe and Carolyn Palchak, Randy and Cherie Riser, Bruce and Linda Rasher and Tom and Terry Duffey.

Junior Youth Theatre Donations
Sue Hutchings

The MCP is excited to bring the Junior Youth Theatre program back home to the Franke Center. For the past several years, Candi Putnam has done a fabulous job of producing a middle school show through the Marshall Community Education program. Shows included, Schoolhouse Rock, Fiddler on the Roof, Jr., Annie, Jr., and Guys and Dolls, Jr. Unfortunately, the Community Education programs were cut last year and the program was left to flounder, unattended.

Even while the program was run outside of the Franke, the MCP continued to support Candi's efforts through staffing and a small amount of funding ($250).

We rescued the program after our funding for the 56th season was set and are in need of funds for royalties, director and music director fees and costuming. We have raised $281 by selling tiaras and crowns during Cinderella and I have personally donated my $300 producers fee from Something's Afoot. Each youth will be charged a $35 fee which will cover the costs of workshops and scripts. The expected shortfall is around $1,000.

Any donations may be made by check, cash or credit card to the Marshall Civic Players Junior Youth Theatre P.O. Box 823, Marshall, MI 49068.
